Our first pilgrimage on foot to the Martyrs’ Shrine in Midland, Ontario, was a profoundly blessed and grace-filled experience for me and my three children. What touched me most was how joyfully my children embraced the journey, likening it to the vibrant raasa processions of church festivals back home in Kerala, India. Their innocent comparison filled the walk with a sense of familiarity, culture, and faith that bridged our heritage with our life here in Canada. Though the day was humid and the road at times demanding, my children’s little strides became a source of strength and inspiration. Each step reminded me to walk not with weariness, but with prayer—lifting up intentions through the intercession of Mother Mary and offering thanksgiving to God for the gift of family, faith, and the witness of the Canadian Martyrs. The steady rhythm of our footsteps became a prayer in itself, echoing gratitude and hope. As we finally reached the holy grounds of the Shrine, our hearts were filled with peace and joy, knowing that our journey—both physical and spiritual—had been blessed. With faith and gratitude, we look forward to returning next year, ready to walk once more in prayer, fellowship, and love for God.
