On October 19th, Holy Cross Family Ministries Canada hosted a transformative one-day retreat at St. John Brebeuf Parish in LaSalle, PQ, just outside Montreal. Led by Father Shaji M. Lucka CSC, the National Director, along with my husband Michael and myself, the retreat focused on the theme “Holy Eucharist, Prayer, and Family Life: Together Towards a Eucharistic Communion and Community.” Over 100 parishioners participated in this enriching experience.
Our discussions highlighted the significance of praying the rosary, attending daily Eucharist, and regularly practicing the sacrament of reconciliation as vital steps in revitalizing family relationships and deepening connections with God. We also honoured the legacy of Venerable Patrick Peyton CSC, the founder of Holy Cross Family Ministries, emphasizing his passion for promoting the Rosary as a family tradition. Participants and other parishioners were thrilled to receive a Rosary as a gift from HCFM and over 300 rosaries and instructional leaflets on how to pray the Rosary were placed before the faithful, committing to integrate this practice into their daily lives.
The retreat commenced in a spirit of reverence, as we gathered in the chapel before the Blessed Sacrament. Father Shaji assured attendees that four families ( Anto and Sandra, Edwin and Neethu, Deepu and Jewel and Family passionately offered their precious time gathering in ardent prayer at St. Raphael’s Adoration Chapel in Burlington and dedicated nine hours of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament in support of the retreat, inviting the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon all involved as the retreat was in progress. The joy and surprise on the faces of the participants were palpable, reinforcing our belief in the power of intercessory prayer.
In the morning session, we delivered presentations aligned with our theme, which resonated deeply with those present. During lunch, many expressed their appreciation for our insights. The afternoon featured small group discussions centred around two reflective questions, fostering an environment where the Holy Spirit was profoundly present. Participants engaged actively, and the sharing of group insights revealed a rich tapestry of thoughts and experiences.
Following these discussions, attendees had the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and spend time in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament. We concluded the day with a Holy Mass, presided over by Father Shaji M. Lucka, C.S.C.
It was evident that the participants were eager to deepen their faith, yearning to know Jesus more clearly, love Him more dearly, and follow Him more closely. Sound familiar?
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Father George MCBS, the Pastor of St. John Brebeuf Parish, for his generous hospitality. We look forward to future retreats where Holy Cross Family Ministries can continue to support individuals and families on their journey to spiritual fulfillment.
Michael and Patricia.
