A Memorable Encounter with the Catechism Children of St. Joseph’s Church, Hamilton

Interacting with a group of children and celebrating the Holy Eucharist at St. Joseph Church, Hamilton, of the Oriental Syro-Malabar Rite was truly a wonderful and inspiring experience. This special event took place on Saturday, March 22nd, and Sunday, March 23rd, 2025, as part of their Lenten retreat in preparation for the forthcoming Easter. At the kind invitation of the Pastor, Fr. Tomy, I had the privilege of speaking to the children about the significance of praying the Rosary both as individuals and within their families. I shared with them the powerful story of Venerable Patrick Peyton, his miraculous healing, and the profound impact of prayer in our daily lives. The children listened with great enthusiasm and were deeply moved by the testimony of faith and the transformative power of the Rosary. One of the most touching moments was when each of the children—numbering over 120—received a Rosary along with a leaflet on How to Pray the Rosary. Their faces lit up with joy as they held these sacred items, and it was heartening to witness their sincere eagerness to embrace this beautiful devotion.

Many of them expressed a commitment to praying the Rosary at home, a sign of their growing faith and devotion. Following the Holy Mass and reflective sharing, Holy Cross Family Ministries (HCFM) provided light refreshment for the children, fostering a warm and communal atmosphere. It was truly inspiring to see them engage with a sense of spiritual assurance, embracing the Rosary as a meaningful part of their daily lives. Additionally, I was available to hear their confessions, offering them an opportunity for spiritual renewal and deeper reconciliation with God. The retreat was a beautiful testament to the vibrant faith of the community, and it was a joy to witness the young hearts of St. Joseph Church embrace the love of Christ through prayer. This experience reaffirms the timeless truth that “The family that prays together stays together.” May these children continue to grow in faith and love, bringing blessings to their families and community through the power of prayer.
